About the Team

Fiona Höbler, Ph.D.
Lab Director
I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, as well as a member of the Western Institute for Neuroscience and the Centre for Brain and Mind at Western University. I completed my clinical training in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Reading in 2011, my Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology and Neuroscience at the University of Toronto in 2022, and my postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan in 2024.
I am interested in the neurocognitive and neurophysiological processes that support complex human behaviours, such as verbal communication and skill acquisition, and how these vary across individuals, client groups, and throughout the lifespan. I am especially interested in the experience of developmental stuttering and in understanding how neural mechanisms, attentional processes, and learning approaches can influence speech production, developmental outcomes, and the therapeutic process for individuals who stutter.
Outside of the lab, I love to run, travel, and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible.

I am an undergraduate student at Western University, currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion. I aspire to become a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and am particularly interested in deepening my foundational understanding of disfluency through research.
My academic focus centers on developmental stuttering, with a specific interest in how therapeutic pedagogies and evidence based clinical practices can support individuals who stutter. I am especially drawn to research examining how motor learning principles intersect with speech production, and how these insights can inform more effective, individualized interventions to improve fluency outcomes.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading Russian and German literature and quiet crafts like French beading!
